Albany Council Approves Tax Measure Updates and Establishes Ballot Argument Subcommittees

The City Council discussed and approved updates to four ballot measures related to special taxes and business license taxes. For Measure F20206 (street paving and storm drain improvements) and the EMS/Fire Protection tax, the council amended the resolutions to implement the 50% low-income exemption/rebate immediately upon voter approval, rather than upon a triggering event. For the Business License Tax, significant revisions were made to shift from an employee-based system to a gross receipts-based system, aiming to provide tax relief for smaller businesses and generate an estimated $600,000 in new revenue.
