Bedford City Council Approves Electric Power Franchise Renewal for Encore Electric Delivery Company

The Bedford City Council unanimously approved an ordinance granting Encore Electric Delivery Company LLC, its successors, and assigns an electric power franchise. This franchise allows Encore Electric to use and occupy the city's streets, alleys, easements, and public ways for the construction, extension, maintenance, and operation of electric power lines and facilities. The ordinance updates and cleans up existing language, restates terms for Encore's use of right-of-way, and clarifies compensation. The agreement is for 20 years with potential extensions. Negotiations for specific rates are handled outside this franchise agreement, with the city currently generating approximately $1.5 million annually from the franchise, a figure expected to continue.

The Friends of the Bedford Animal Shelter are organizing a fundraising event called 'Sun's Up, Shades Out' on Saturday, July 18th, with two shows at 2 PM and 7 PM at the Bedford School. The event aims to raise funds to improve the shelter's outdoor areas by providing shade, as two trees were removed during recent renovations, leaving the animals without adequate shade. The event will feature magician Kex Lang, face painters, a mindful experience presentation, raffle, and concessions, with tickets costing $20. Sponsors include HEB, MBT Financial Bank, and Camp Bedford. Animals from the shelter will be present from 3 PM to 6 PM for potential adoptions. The shelter has recently moved to Ulis, and residents are directed to take animals there for surrender.
