City Approves Agreement for Urban Search and Rescue Services
The City Council approved Resolution 2026-103, an agreement with the State of Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs Division of Emergency Management for urban search and rescue emergency response services. The Beloit Fire Department has been a participating agency since the program's inception. This renewal allows Beloit personnel to continue participating in the specialized team, which provides advanced training. The city aims to increase the number of rescue technicians through this program. The agreement ensures that specialized training and capabilities are available to the community even when not deployed elsewhere.
Disabled Parking Spaces to be Added on East Grand Avenue
The City Council approved Ordinance Number 3919, which adds disabled parking spaces on East Grand Avenue between State Street and Pleasant Street. This ordinance mandates two disabled parking spaces on each side of the block, totaling four spaces. This addition is a requirement of the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (ProWag) based on the number of parking spaces around the block perimeter. The Traffic Review Committee unanimously recommended approval of the ordinance. The ordinance passed after a motion to suspend the rules for the second reading and a subsequent motion to approve the ordinance.
New School Crossing Proposed for Townline Avenue Near New York County First School
The City Council is considering Ordinance Number 3920, which proposes adding a school crossing on Townline Avenue between Prof Street and Whipple Street. This proposal stems from a concerned parent's request regarding student safety near New York County First School. Engineering determined that the installation of a pedestrian-activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) is warranted, as the calculated number of pedestrians crossing (81, counting children as two and adults as one) exceeds the threshold of 20. The principal of the school has agreed to work with students on safe crossing practices. The Traffic Review Committee unanimously recommended approval. This was the first reading of the ordinance, and it was laid over for a second reading.
City Council Approves Zoning Map Amendment for Hickory Drive Properties
The City Council gave a second reading and approved Ordinance Number 3916, which amends the zoning district map for properties located at 2209 and 2217 Hickory Drive. The ordinance passed with a motion and second.

Councilor Don then announced a special preschool story time at Bloyd Public Library on Wednesday featuring players from Beloit Skyfire baseball team, aimed at children ages 2-6.
