Town Council Cancels July Meetings; August Schedule Announced
The Town Council announced the cancellation of their July work session and regular meeting, as is typical for their end-of-July recess. The next work session is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Black Motor Company, and the subsequent regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers.

The council acknowledged the topic of transparency and accessibility as something to be discussed at a future meeting.

Council members provided announcements regarding upcoming community events and local business support. These included the Summer Arts Festival featuring a play ('The Novelist'), art exhibits, and community mural exhibition, as well as 'Music on Henderson' on Fridays. Restaurant Week was also highlighted as an opportunity to support local businesses. Additionally, Capone's Jewelry was recognized for celebrating 40 years in business, emphasizing the value of long-standing small businesses to the community's richness.
Town Council Approves Master Lease for Retail Incubator at 414 North Main Street
The Town Council approved Ordinance 2115, which authorizes the Town Manager to execute a master lease agreement with 414 LLC for property located at 414 North Main Street. This agreement is for the town's retail incubator project, which has been in development since before the pandemic. The project aims to promote local entrepreneurship and small retail development, allowing Downtown Blackburg Incorporated (DBI) to begin subleasing to prospective merchants. The motion to approve was made and seconded, and the ordinance passed.
