City Council Approves Appointments and Reappointments to Multiple Boards and Commissions
The city council approved mayoral appointments for several boards and commissions. City Considers Increasing Parking Requirements for Banquet Halls
The city council discussed a proposed text amendment to the zoning code regarding parking requirements. The current requirements for banquet halls are significantly lower than those in neighboring communities. The city researched surrounding areas like Kelly Method City, Prestwood, and Alsip, noting their more stringent parking requirements based on square footage, seating capacity, or occupancy. The current city code requires only 10% of maximum capacity for parking, which is deemed insufficient. The proposed amendment aims to increase these requirements to better align with regional standards, while still allowing the use of public parking lots.
City Announces Upcoming Events and Thanks Community for 4th of July Success
The city clerk announced upcoming events: National Night Out on August 4th, Santa Natas Carnival from August 5th to August 9th, and the Day of the Dead on November 7th. The clerk also thanked all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and city departments for making the recent 4th of July celebration a success, specifically mentioning City Clerk Arena Elmorado for her assistance.
City to Consider Extending Hours for Cannabis Dispensaries
The city council discussed amending state law allowing for amended hours of operation for cannabis dispensaries. The local dispensary has requested to mirror the state law, which now permits later operating hours. The council is considering aligning the city's regulations with the state's updated hours, which would allow dispensaries to be open until 10 PM, similar to liquor stores and taverns. City to Consider Distance Requirements for New Gas Stations and Banquet Halls

Currently, there are no distance requirements between new gas stations, allowing them to be built next to each other. The proposal is to implement a 1,500-foot distance requirement between new gas stations and also establish a similar dispersal standard for banquet halls, based on the current spacing of existing banquet halls in the city. This aims to control the concentration of these types of businesses.
