City Council Approves Street Preservation Contract for $196,994
The City Council approved a contract with Intermountain Slurry Seal, Incorporated for the 2026 street preservation project. The contract amount is not to exceed $196,994. This amount includes a 5% contingency for potential overages due to variations in final measurements or change orders. The city has a remaining budget of $542,000 for street maintenance, with $343,000 already expended on patching. The approved amount falls within the remaining budget.
City Council Approves Funding for Fire Station and Debt Refinancing
The City Council reviewed and approved a resolution to move forward with debt issuances for the 2026 Capital Improvement Plan, including a $20 million certificate of obligation for a new fire station and refinancing of existing debt to achieve potential savings of $700,000 to $1.7 million. The proposed debt issuances will not result in a tax rate increase.
City Council Authorizes Application for $2 Million Water Supply Grant
The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for a Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The city seeks up to $2 million in grant funding for its Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) project at the water treatment plant, which aims to reduce disinfection byproducts and earth-smelling scents in the water. This grant is a 100% reimbursement grant for eligible, shovel-ready projects and is not available to private entities. The application deadline is the end of the month. Although the initial grant information suggested eligibility for reuse projects, the final application criteria focused on drinking water supply. The city is also pursuing other grant opportunities.
