Water, Sewer, and Stormwater Projects Near Completion; Payments Approved
The council approved a change order for the Pioneer lift station project, which involves replacing a pipe from an emergency repair made just before the project started. The project is nearing completion, with one final pay application anticipated after this one. Separately, the Redwood Storm Sewer Project is also nearing completion, with a final payout expected at the next meeting. Finally, the water treatment plant project's final pay application was approved, totaling $863,864.45 after deducting $414,500 in liquidated damages.
Chamber of Commerce Seeks $85,000 Investment for Marketing and Promotion
Rachel Nman, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, requested an $85,000 investment from the city to support the Chamber's marketing and promotion efforts. These funds would enable the Chamber to expand community-wide advertising campaigns, develop visitor and relocation materials, enhance digital marketing, support business recruitment, and provide promotional support for events. Nman emphasized that this investment is not just for the Chamber but for Brandon's small businesses, local economy, community image, and future growth, highlighting the Chamber's mission to strengthen the local economy through promoting Brandon via events, social media, and advertising.
City Council Approves Funding for Additional Cameras in Safety Program
The council approved a quote for cameras as part of the third year of the infrastructure, traffic safety, and buildings camera program. This is a budgeted item, and the quote is within budget. The acquisition of these cameras was a lengthy process this year.
Concept Plan for 50-Acre 'Split Rock Reserve' Residential Subdivision Presented
Mike Stanley of Dream Design International presented a concept plan for a 50-acre residential subdivision called Split Rock Reserve, located on the eastern side of Brandon, adjacent to Burkeman Valley Elementary School. The plan features two styles of single-family residential zoning: R1 (minimum 80 ft wide lots) and R2 (higher density, smaller homes targeting first-time buyers). The development aims to connect Oak and Chestnut streets and extend Sunshine Street southwards, with internal access roads and no direct access points from Sunshine along the school district. Stormwater detention will be included, staying clear of floodway/floodplain zones. The current plan proposes approximately 163 lots, all single-family.
City Council Approves Amendment to Wall Signage Regulations for Business Districts
The council reviewed the second reading of ordinance 763, an amendment to the zoning code regarding wall signage for central business and general business districts. The current code allows three square feet of signage per linear foot of street frontage, capped at 200 square feet for larger lots. The proposed amendment introduces a second classification based on building size rather than street frontage, removing the 200-square-foot cap and allowing for more signage if warranted by building size. This change is expected to benefit larger businesses, such as those in Splur Rock Square, while smaller businesses with limited storefronts may not utilize it.
