Village Board Approves Corporate Warrant of Over $2.1 Million
The Village Board approved the corporate warrant dated July 13th, 2026, for $2,162,836.56. This warrant was larger due to the extra week between board meetings. Key expenditures highlighted include $23,900 for a leak detection and location survey of water mains, nearly $28,000 for new signs and installation at Kiwanis, Ellert Creekside, and Maple South Parks, $172,000 for Hancock Engineering for infrastructure projects, and $676,000 to Narduli Concrete for 2026 street improvements.
Brookfield Conservation Commission Honored with National Park Service Award for Creekside Woods Project
The Village of Brookfield Conservation Commission received the National Park Service Partner Excellence Award for their work on the Creekside Woods project. This award recognizes the exemplary partnership and community participation in the restoration and outdoor recreation enhancements for Creekside Woods, formerly South Kiwanis Park. The commission also provided an update on recent accomplishments, including trail construction workshops, development of interpretive signs, clearing of invasive species like buckthorn, and improvements to site hydrology, leading to the emergence of rare native plant species. Future goals include controlled burns, continued planting, and invasive species management. Additionally, the village received a technical assistance grant to aid in applying for funding for a bridge across Salt Creek and trail work.
Successful Artisan Market and Positive Business Performance at Shops on Progress Park
The village hosted its first artisan market of the season on Wednesday, which had been postponed three times due to rain. The event, held concurrently with the Shops on Progress Park being open, attracted a large crowd and featured food vendors and a Fair Trade vendor. The Shops on Progress Park are reportedly doing well, with some businesses extending their hours due to increased foot traffic. The board expressed hope for continued success with these events.
Chamber of Commerce Announces Summer and Fall Event Schedule
The Chamber of Commerce has announced several upcoming events. These include the ongoing Saturday Farmers Market at Village Hall, a classic car show on August 23rd on the western side of Broadway, and a two-day creative arts festival on September 19th and 20th in Kiwanis Park. Additionally, the Brookfield Block Party is scheduled for July 24th, August 28th, and September 25th on Grand Avenue. A recent ribbon cutting for the new Dollar Tree on Ogden Avenue was also mentioned as a successful community event.
Tribute to Staff, Volunteers, and Congratulatory Notes for Local Sports Team
The board acknowledged the significant efforts of village staff and volunteers in managing numerous summer events, including concerts, the 4th of July parade, and responding to storm cleanups. Special thanks were extended to the new Parks and Recreation Director, Matt Odom, and all volunteers for their hard work. The report also noted that elected officials, including Congressman Chewy Garcia, State Representative Lisa Hernandez, and Senator Javier Cervantes, were impressed by the 4th of July parade and community spirit. Additionally, the Brookfield 10U All-Star baseball team was congratulated for winning the district title and advancing to the state level.
