City Council Approves Budget Amendment to Replenish Emergency Funds
The City Council considered an ordinance to amend the 2026 appropriation ordinance. This amendment, number three, is to replenish funds in the general fund, specifically $20,000, that were unexpectedly used for legal expenses related to the Winchester Boulevard roundabout project and a disagreement with Casto. The goal is to restore these emergency funds for the remainder of the year. The council also moved to waive the second and third readings for this ordinance.
Sheriff Reports on Increase in Car Break-ins; Urges Residents to Lock Doors
During the Fairfield County Sheriff's report, Sergeant Strong provided an update on recent car break-ins. He noted that several incidents occurred this morning, with the involved vehicles being observed leaving town but not stopping for police. These break-ins, occurring between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m., appear to be crimes of opportunity, with car doors left unlocked. The Sheriff's department is continuing efforts to combat these incidents. Sergeant Strong also advised residents to keep car doors locked and not leave valuables inside to prevent theft.
Estates at Miller Farms Rezoning Application Scheduled for Public Hearing
The Estates at Miller Farms has applied for a rezoning of 110-111 acres west of the existing Miller Farms. This application has been referred to City Council, with a public hearing scheduled for September 8th. Rockford Homes is proceeding with the development of the single-family portion of the current Miller Farms zoned area, while LOCox is finalizing utility and infrastructure plans for later this year. The public hearing on September 8th will address the rezoning for single-family homes, potentially comprising 246 to 276 lots.
Human Services Reports Significant Community Support and Services Provided
The Human Services report for fiscal year 2026, quarter 4 (April-June) and the full fiscal year 2026 was presented. For the quarter, one-way trips provided were 1,603 (911 for residents), covering 8,768 miles. The Community Food Pantry served 1,170 clients, 193 new families, 134 households, provided 16,140 meals, and distributed 24,782 pounds of food. For senior transportation for the year, 3,502 of 4,803 one-way trips were for residents, covering 34,850 miles. The pantry served 5,710 clients, 104 new families, 309 households, provided 72,533 meals, and distributed 85,741 pounds of food. Support from the city council and residents was gratefully acknowledged.
City to Seek OPWC Funding for Hill Road Widening Project
The City Council is considering an ordinance authorizing city officials to seek financial assistance from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for the Hill Road Widening Project. This project aims to widen Hill Road to three lanes from King's Crossing to where Green Gate is located. Construction is planned for 2028. The ordinance declares an emergency to meet application deadlines, with applications due August 28th. A public meeting, not a hearing, will be held. This follows a similar process used for the East Waterloo Street project.
