Village Addresses Gutter Installation Issues, Advances Park and Roadway Projects

Plans for Tarmac and MFT are being submitted for environmental clearance and engineering plan review, with construction anticipated for late this year or next year, subject to the lengthy approval process.
Oxford Subdivision Flooding Explained: Design Limitations and Resident Modifications Cited

While the existing drainage ditch and pipe were functioning correctly, the volume and intensity of recent rainfall overwhelmed the system. Water flowed between houses to the street and then along the road to a low point. Because Oxford lacks roadside ditches and has limited capacity inlets, water accumulated on the roadway. The existing drainage system was designed to catch typical rainfall, not extreme events. While no houses were flooded and water dissipated within an hour, remedying the situation would require significant infrastructure changes like cutting roadside ditches and increasing culvert sizes, which would impact residents' yards and street parking. It was emphasized that it's impossible to design infrastructure for zero water accumulation during all storm events. The discussion also touched on historical subdivision standards, the lack of sidewalks in older areas, and the process for implementing new sidewalks through special assessments if residents desire them and are willing to dedicate easements and share costs. The drainage issues in Oxford are attributed to a combination of intense rainfall, altered drainage patterns due to resident modifications, and the original design standards for the subdivision.
