Clarksburg City Council Approves $1.25 Million Settlement with Firefighters

The Clarksburg City Council voted to approve a settlement agreement with approximately 44 firefighters from the Clarksburg Fire Department for $1.25 million. This agreement is expected to result in the dismissal of two pending lawsuits filed by the firefighters in Harrison County Circuit Court and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. The litigation stemmed from an error in the city's calculation of firefighters' hourly pay rates. The city identified, corrected, and brought the miscalculation to the firefighters' attention before the lawsuits were filed. The settlement brings this outstanding litigation to a conclusion, and the city expressed appreciation for the professionalism of all involved parties in resolving the matter and looks forward to continued cooperation with the fire department.
