Resident Seeks Consideration for De-annexation Due to Limited City Services
Nick Jenkins addressed the de-annexation item, explaining his situation at 73 Outer Ridge Road. He clarified that his water comes from the common plateau water authority, not the city, and he plans to install a septic system as there is no city sewer. He noted his property borders county properties and feels the benefits of city taxes (trash pickup, fire/rescue) do not fully compensate for the cost, given the lack of full city services. He requested consideration for his unique situation.
E Street Parking Reconfigured to Accommodate New Lot
The council discussed and approved changes to parking on E Street. The project completed a new parking lot adding 33 spaces. To facilitate access to this new lot, the city proposes removing five angle parking spaces on the western side of E Street and creating nine parking spaces on the library side. This adjustment also aims to better align the center line of that section of East Street with the section across Second Street. The city partnered with the county on this parking lot project.
Chamber of Commerce Announces Rescheduled Business Event and Ribbon Cutting
Ethan Hadley of the Chamber of Commerce provided an update. He announced a rescheduled 'Business After Hours' event for the upcoming Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Shooting Sports Park. He also mentioned a ribbon-cutting ceremony for White Group Realty earlier that day at 4:00 p.m. Hadley encouraged attendance at both events.
City Council Approves Initial Ordinance for Data Center Moratorium
The City Council discussed and approved an ordinance to add Title 14, Chapter 12, concerning data centers, to the municipal code. This action aligns the city with the county's recent two-year moratorium on data centers, aiming to establish proper guidelines and prevent the drain of city resources. The ordinance requires two further readings before final adoption. The council also emphasized the need for collective action with the county to address data center impacts and protect community resources, noting that data centers often challenge moratoriums.
Mark Mann Appointed to Tree Board
Mayor Kizzire announced the appointment of Mark Mann to the Tree Board, filling a vacancy. His term is set to expire in May 2029. The nomination was made by the tree board.
