Zoning Ordinance Amendment to Reclassify Data Centers Introduced

The City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the zoning ordinance concerning data processing centers. The proposed change would remove data processing as a permitted use in the Industrial A (Light Industrial) and TR (Technology and Research) districts. Dearborn Public Library to Offer STEM Kits Funded by New Grant

The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the Finance Director to recognize and appropriate grant funding of $1,496 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, via the Library of Michigan. These funds will be used to purchase equipment and materials for STEM kits, which will be available for checkout at the Henry Ford Centennial Library starting in summer 2026. City Secures $1 Million MEDC Grant for East Dearborn Revitalization Project

The City Council authorized the Finance Director to recognize and appropriate $1 million in grant revenue from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) grant program. This funding will match city funds for alley and public space enhancements for the East Downtown Access Hub. The Mayor was authorized to execute the grant agreement. The project, which must be completed by December 31, 2028, aims to transform the East Downtown Hub and is expected to bring over 300 employees back to East Michigan Avenue, revitalizing the area.

Dearborn Homecoming Festival to Implement Curfew for Juveniles Under 18

The City Council introduced an ordinance to amend Chapter 14, Article 8, Section 14-317 of the Code of Ordinances, concerning curfew, to be applicable during the upcoming Dearborn Homecoming Festival from August 7th to August 9th. The ordinance requires juveniles under 18 to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian after 4 p.m. on festival days. Additionally, the curfew may be used as a mechanism to address disturbances caused by young adults in the business district or outlined areas after 9 p.m. This ordinance requires a first and second reading.
