City Council Approves Right-of-Way Vacation for Jackson Enterprises
City Council held the third reading of an ordinance concerning the vacation of city right-of-way related to Jackson Enterprises Limited. Initially, the applicant requested to vacate 0.125 acres off Thurston Street. Upon survey completion, it was determined that an existing building on the Jackson Enterprises property was encroaching on the Jackson Avenue right-of-way. Consequently, the proposal was amended to vacate 0.062 acres along Jackson Avenue. The ordinance was adopted.
City Council to Discuss Data Center Zoning and Moratorium at Special Meeting
City Council discussed the upcoming special meeting on July 20th, 2026, which will address zoning ordinances for data centers and a proposed 12-month moratorium on data centers. Councilmember Odell plans to present a draft moratorium for review, aiming to provide time for thorough discussion and research into necessary zoning changes. The moratorium could expire sooner than 12 months if council reaches a consensus on appropriate zoning. The discussion also clarified that the moratorium aims to cover various data center uses, including Bitcoin mining and crypto uses, to allow for comprehensive zoning updates.
