El Reno Reports Strong Sales, Use, and Hotel Tax Collections; Property Purchase Authorized
Positive financial reports were presented, showing that sales tax revenue for the period was $1,100,139.79, exceeding the monthly budget by over $100,000. Use tax revenue was $287,658.08, surpassing the monthly budget by nearly $48,000. Hotel motel tax revenue was $54,106.95, exceeding its monthly budget of $36,900. Additionally, the city authorized the payment of $202,337 to complete the purchase of property located at 2408 Sunset Drive, identified by District Court of Canadian County case number CJ 2025-976.
El Reno Air Park Authority Approves Hangar Demolition and Management Contracts
The El Reno Air Park Authority approved bids for the salvage and demolition of Hangar One, including its main structure for potential reassembly elsewhere on the airport. Bid packages were awarded to Hangar Salvage to Drew Construction for the hangar salvage ($24,600), Total Demolition Services for terminal demolition ($32,000), and Wade Drew Construction for concrete replacement ($78,600), totaling $135,200. Additionally, a guaranteed maximum price amendment of $278,080 was approved for the construction management agreement with W.L. McNatt for the project, covering their markup and general services.
El Reno City Council Proclaims State of Emergency Following Storm Damage
The El Reno City Council proclaimed a state of emergency disaster due to substantial damage caused by storms on June 21st and 22nd, 2026, which affected property, structures, trees, and power lines. This proclamation is to address the threat to public safety and welfare and to qualify for potential reimbursement from the emergency disaster fund and FEMA. Mayor Steve Jensen officially proclaimed the emergency disaster for El Reno, Oklahoma.
New Hires Announced for EMS and Golf Course; Interim City Manager Agreement Approved
The city has hired Carrie Love as an assistant, bringing over 20 years of experience in EMS, including 14 years as a paramedic and six years as director of county EMS service. The council also approved an employment agreement with Kendall W. Brown as interim city manager.
El Reno City Council Calls General Election, Approves City Manager Hiring Process
The El Reno City Council approved a resolution calling for a general election to elect a council member from Ward 3. The resolution sets facts as required by state law and directs the city clerk to notify the Canadian County Election Board. Due to state deadlines, the registration process was moved forward by one week. Additionally, the council approved a contract with Oklahoma Municipal Management Services for an executive search for a new city manager and adopted a resolution establishing policies and procedures for the city manager hiring process. Finally, an interim city manager employment agreement with Kendall W. Brown was approved.
