Amusement Arcade Approved for Wildwood Boulevard Location
The City Council considered and approved a conditional use permit (CUP) for an amusement devices arcade (claw machines) to operate as a primary use at 140 Wildwood Boulevard. The ordinance approved was number 2622, changing zoning from PD Planned Development Overlay District to PD Planned Development Overlay District with the CUP for amusement devices arcade.
City Council Approves Financial Incentive for The Villages at Gateway Development
The City Council authorized the city manager's office to enter into a contract for a financial incentive for 'The Villages at Gateway.' This decision follows deliberations in executive session regarding commercial or financial information from a business prospect and the offer of financial incentives. Incumbent Members Reappointed to Forney Boards and Commissions
The City Council voted to reappoint existing members to various boards and commissions, including the Animal Adoption Center Shelter Advisory Committee, Board of Adjustments, Building Standards Commission, Capital Improvement Advisory Committee, Economic Development Corporation, Historic Overlay District Architectural Review Board, Park and Recreation Board, and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Cigar Lounge Approved for East Highway 80 Location
The City Council approved a conditional use permit (CUP) for a cigar lounge to operate at 101 East U.S. Highway 80. The property, previously a realtor office, is in the General Retail District. The applicant plans to use the existing 1,275 sq ft building with minimal exterior changes, focusing on paint and signage. A key feature will be an air purification system designed for cigar environments. The lounge will be restricted to ages 21 and older and will operate under TABC BYOB regulations. Proposed hours are Monday-Thursday, 11 AM-11 PM; Friday-Saturday, 11 AM-midnight; and Sunday, noon-9 PM. The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval. The approved ordinance was number 2624.
Funding Approved for Mulberry Park Fourplex Field Renovations and Drainage Improvements
The City Council approved funding for renovations and drainage improvements at Mulberry Park's fourplex fields. The project includes reconditioning all four infields, installing new irrigation (two fields currently lack it), replacing all irrigation around the complex, and adding new turf and leveling to all fields. Common areas between fields will also receive irrigation and be multi-purpose. Stormwater drainage improvements are also part of the project. The goal is to start immediately to avoid losing two playing seasons (fall and spring). Sufficient fund balance is available within the current capital budget. A motion to approve was made by Councilmember Traylor and seconded by Councilmember Salgato. The vote passed.
