Social Media Policy Updated, Council Discusses Official Communication Channels
The council discussed revisions to the social media policy, focusing on distinguishing between public outreach platforms and online social media platforms. Key changes include updating references from 'Twitter' to 'X' and adding 'YouTube' as a platform. A significant discussion centered on how council members and employees should interact on social media, particularly regarding official communication versus personal opinions. The policy emphasizes that social media posts are not official notice to the borough and encourages official communication through email to mayor and council for record-keeping and accessibility. Council members expressed the importance of directing residents to official channels while maintaining the right to individual expression.
Borough Adopts Fee Schedule for Calendar Advertising; Peddling and Solid Waste Ordinances Introduced
Ordinance number 1966 was adopted on its final reading, establishing fees for advertising in the borough calendar. This ordinance amends Chapter 101 of the revised general ordinances concerning fees. The borough clerk is authorized to advertise the ordinance as required by law. Separately, Ordinance number 1967, which amends chapters related to peddling and soliciting and fees, was passed on first reading. It updates fees and adds a provision for application fees for peddler and solicitor licenses. Ordinance number 1968, amending chapters for solid waste and fees, was also introduced for first reading.
Library Elevator Project Progresses; Friends of the Library Host Fundraiser and Historical Talk
Council member Martin provided several updates. The public works department's extraordinary work during the July 4th storm was recognized. The library elevator project is on schedule and on track, representing a significant upgrade. The Friends of the Library completed a successful book sale and are hosting an 'American Road Trip' fundraiser on October 3rd, featuring international cuisines. Additionally, the library will host a 250th-anniversary talk on 'Remember the Ladies: Women in the Time of the American Revolution' on July 23rd, with a meet and greet hosted by the Chamber of Commerce beforehand.
Police Department Reports on June Activity; National Night Out Planned
The Glenrock Police Department responded to 1593 calls for service in June, including 215 motor vehicle stops. They also assisted with storm-related issues, such as downed power lines. The department is organizing National Night Out on August 11th at Wild Memorial Park, featuring food, games, first responders, and a helicopter landing. The third quarter tax bills will be mailed soon, with an extended grace period for payment until August 18th.
Zoning Ordinance Amendments Reviewed for Clarity and Modernization
The council reviewed proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance, specifically focusing on definitions and regulations for 'story above grade plane,' 'front yards' in the A1 residence district, and 'effective gross floor area ratio.' Key changes include clarifying how 'story above grade plane' is measured from preconstruction grade and modifying front yard setback requirements to consider existing average setbacks in blocks. The proposed amendments also adjust the calculation for effective gross floor area ratio and define maximum plate height. These changes are intended to update existing regulations and provide clearer guidelines for development.
