Social Media Policy Updated, Council Discusses Official Communication Channels

The council discussed revisions to the social media policy, focusing on distinguishing between public outreach platforms and online social media platforms. Key changes include updating references from 'Twitter' to 'X' and adding 'YouTube' as a platform. A significant discussion centered on how council members and employees should interact on social media, particularly regarding official communication versus personal opinions. The policy emphasizes that social media posts are not official notice to the borough and encourages official communication through email to mayor and council for record-keeping and accessibility. Council members expressed the importance of directing residents to official channels while maintaining the right to individual expression.

Zoning Ordinance Amendments Reviewed for Clarity and Modernization

The council reviewed proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance, specifically focusing on definitions and regulations for 'story above grade plane,' 'front yards' in the A1 residence district, and 'effective gross floor area ratio.' Key changes include clarifying how 'story above grade plane' is measured from preconstruction grade and modifying front yard setback requirements to consider existing average setbacks in blocks. The proposed amendments also adjust the calculation for effective gross floor area ratio and define maximum plate height.
