The plan is to install a temporary signal and widen the road at this intersection. Similar concerns were raised for Hayden and Ramsay, where left-turn lanes are planned to improve flow, followed by a temporary signal. The city is working to address these traffic issues, with temporary signals planned for both intersections.
Council Discusses Tentative Budget Adoption Amidst Mayor's Absence; Other Updates Provided

The project is expected to reduce queuing by approximately 300 feet. While not a complete solution, it represents a significant improvement. The design anticipates future traffic volumes by 2046 and considers previous council decisions to maintain a three-lane section for a walkable corridor. The project is on schedule for design milestones, and the acquisition of right-of-way, particularly on the northwest corner, is anticipated, impacting existing parking for a nearby business. The corridor study previously evaluated a roundabout but opted for signal improvements due to impacts on the intersection. Improvements include a southbound right turn lane, extension of the southbound left turn lane, and pedestrian ramp upgrades.
Council Considers Exploring Joint Police Department Agreement with Spirit Lake
Councilmember Roer proposed adding an agenda item to discuss a potential joint police department agreement with Spirit Lake. This initiative stems from a conversation at the AIC meeting where Spirit Lake's mayor suggested exploring collaboration to reduce management costs. Council expressed a preference to wait for the consultant's report before exploring specific inter-agency partnerships, but agreed to discuss options broadly in the future.
