Resolution 2026-16 was adopted in support of locked-out members of the United States Workers Ilpus 71 at the BDP White Army Refinery. The council acknowledged that while a resolution is symbolic, efforts are being made to provide support through community partnerships, such as with the food pantry, and exploring legally permissible actions to assist the affected workers. The resolution aims to show solidarity and encourage good faith negotiations.
Economic Revitalization Area Confirmed, Zoning Amended for New Residential Subdivision
Resolution 2026-14 was passed, confirming an area as an economic revitalization area for real property tax abatement purposes, involving the conduit corporation adjacent to 2400 East 16th Avenue. Ordinance 2026-21 was also passed, amending zoning to change an established PUZ PUD classification to a renew PUD zoning classification for a 45-lot subdivision located southeast of 10th Street at Lake Burke Avenue. This rezoning was necessitated by engineering challenges related to access and wetland issues, requiring the inclusion of five additional lots into the PUD.
City Council Discusses Upcoming Community Events and Volunteer Opportunities
The council received updates on various community events and initiatives. A public input session for a skate park was highly attended with positive feedback. A movie night is scheduled at the Holbert Pool, and a sanitary and flooding whiteboard session will be held. City cleanups are ongoing, with a call for more public volunteer participation. Ordinance 2026-24, concerning budget appropriations within the general fund and Economic Development Department, was moved to second reading and passed.
