June Law Enforcement Report Highlights Traffic Operations and Lifesaver Award
Captain Mullis provided a law enforcement update for June, highlighting a multi-agency traffic checkpoint and saturation operation on June 24th. This operation resulted in 39 individuals found with no driver's license, 83 registration violations, 23 speeding citations, 2 individuals with warrants, 7 forged tags (all towed), and 1 impaired driver. For the entire month of June, there were 131 instances of driving without a license, 68 forged tags, 132 speeding citations, 98 speeding warnings, and 79 instances of driving without insurance. The department also worked 114 accidents. Additionally, two deputies, Garcia and Frasier, received the Union County Lifesaver Award for rescuing a person from a structure fire. A video depicting the rescue was shown.
Special Assessment Approved for Hinsdale Road West Improvements
A public hearing was held regarding a special assessment for improvements to Hinsdale Road West, a private drive on the north side of Highway 74. The applicant, Shaina Cook, requested the improvement due to the road's poor condition and narrow width, making it difficult to access from Highway 74. The proposed project involves resurfacing and striping the road up to the Highway 74 ridgeway line, installing a stop bar, and a stop sign. The property owner will need to donate the right-of-way in the red area to the town at no cost. The total project cost is $39,427, with each party (applicant and town) covering half ($19,713.50). The assessment will be spread over 10 years at approximately $1,900 per year per party. The council adopted a resolution to approve the improvements and levy the special assessment.
