Irving City Council Approves Zoning Changes for Autonomous Vehicle Hub and Auto Service Center
The Irving City Council considered an ordinance to amend the comprehensive plan's future land use map from business office to manufacturing office warehouse at 4203 West Royal Lane. This change was approved unanimously. Additionally, the council approved a zoning change from freeway to SP1 PRAN ML-20A, with a detailed site plan for a light industrial facility for the storage, dispatch, and repair of an autonomous vehicle fleet at the same address. This was also passed unanimously. The council also approved a zoning change from CN Neighborhood Commercial and State Highway 161 Overlay to SP1 paren C-N, with a detailed site plan for an auto service center minor as a principal use within the State Highway 161 overlay at 4149 North Beltline Road. This was approved unanimously after discussion regarding the overlay and compatibility with adjacent neighborhoods. Finally, an ordinance to convert parking spaces into an outer patio at 300 West Las Calinas Boulevard was approved with a 7-1 vote.
Resident Urges Council to Prioritize Homeless Services and Reallocate Funds in Annual Action Plan
The Irving City Council discussed the 2026-2027 annual action plan submission for federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A resident, Laura Anderson, spoke about the need for improved services for the homeless, specifically mentioning the lack of accessible cooling centers and the importance of a permanent solution for year-round shelter.
