City Council Awards Contract for Lift Station Rehabilitation and Approves Engineering Agreement
The City Council approved awarding bid number 2526-06 to PBM Constructors for the rehabilitation of lift station number 13 and site upgrades. The lift station is located on the southeast bank of the central basin outfall waterway, south of Fairway. The council also approved an agreement with Fort Waters Engineering for contract administration. The mayor and city manager were authorized to negotiate and execute contracts related to the bid award.
City Council Approves Ordinance Exempting Mobile Food Vehicles from Overnight Parking Restrictions
The City Council passed an ordinance on its second reading to amend Chapter 12 of the city code, specifically Section 12-33 concerning hours of operation, signage, and noise for mobile food dispensing vehicles. The amendment provides an exemption for overnight parking for these vehicles. This change aligns city regulations with state rules. The ordinance was adopted unanimously.
City Council Accepts $1.6 Million Federal Grant for Storm Hardening of Electric Infrastructure
The City Council approved accepting a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for storm hardening improvements to the electric infrastructure in Jacksonville Beach. The grant will fund approximately 65% of the total project cost, which is $2.45 million, for undergrounding existing overhead electric facilities between 2nd Avenue North and 12th Avenue North, west of Penman Road. This project is part of Beaches Energy's long-term capital improvement plan to enhance reliability and resilience, with construction expected between 2026 and 2028. The council also authorized the mayor and city manager to execute the grant agreement with the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
