Development Proposal Withdrawn to Preserve Developable Land
Public hearings for the property west of Country Club Lane, abutting the MPPD tail race canal hike bike trail, submitted by Miller Associates for DT Development, were withdrawn. The applicant requested withdrawal to explore options for keeping the land developable, as opposed to making it an out-lot. This marks the third consecutive withdrawal request for this property.
Redevelopment Project Approved with Tax Increment Financing
The council approved a redevelopment project proposed by Talmadge Jam LLC for Redevelopment Area Number Eight. The project involves apartments located east of the Riverside Animal Hospital, with an estimated completion cost of just under $6.5 million. The project was deemed economically unfeasible without Tax Increment Financing (TIF), and will receive 100% of the annual increment in real estate taxes up to the certified eligible project costs over a period not exceeding 15 years, starting with tax year 2027.
Council Recognizes Community Events and Infrastructure Projects
Council members recognized the success of the 250th celebration, particularly the fireworks and community involvement. They also acknowledged the ongoing state Little League tournament hosted by Kearney and the upcoming state Legion seniors tournament. Discussions also touched upon the water trail project and the development of a new landing/exit area, highlighting partnerships with Whitewater advocates and the Park and Rec Department.

The council expressed gratitude for her dedication and efforts in organizing the successful community celebration, highlighting her contributions to the recreation department and various community events such as the Community Olympics and Senior Olympics.
Pete Katiopoulos Sworn In as New Council Member
Pete Katiopoulos was sworn in as a new council member to fill the vacant seat left by Alex, who is currently on deployment at the Naval War College. Katiopoulos took the oath of office, pledging to support the U.S. and Nebraska Constitutions and to faithfully perform his duties.
