The city is advising residents about potential Southern California Edison (SCE) Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) due to high winds and dry conditions, especially in North Laverne, Mountain Springs, and Golden Hills/Esperance areas. Residents are urged to visit SCE.com/PSPS for information, notifications, and backup power solutions, including portable power stations and generators. SCE will also mail notifications. The city is preparing by clearing brush and ensuring reservoirs are full. Residents are encouraged to prepare their homes, maintain generators, clear debris, and consider fire vent proofing. The city is working with SCE and Public Works to address road closures and ensure resident safety.
Laverne Rotary Club's 'Field of Courage' Honors Service Members, Raises Funds
The Laverne Rotary Club presented to the City Council about their inaugural Field of Courage U.S. flag display held over the 4th of July weekend at Queens Park. The event honored veterans, active military, and first responders. The display was well-received, with visitors sponsoring flags and veterans expressing deep appreciation. The event strengthened the club's community connection and established a partnership with the VFW, raising over $2,000 for VFW projects. The club expressed a desire to bring the display back next year.
