Layton City Council Approves Gentile Street Improvements Project and Awards Construction Bid
Layton City Council approved an interlocal cooperation agreement with Davis County for the Gentile Street 2400 East to 2600 East project. The agreement addresses roadway improvements, including sidewalk installation, curb and gutter, travel lanes, and shoulders. The project also includes storm drain, water line, and sanitary sewer improvements, as well as street lighting. The county will fund 80% of the transportation expenses, totaling $1,592,000, while the city will contribute $398,000 (20%). The city is responsible for completing the work by December 31st, 2027. Additionally, the council awarded a bid to Landmark Excavating for the construction of this project for $2,679,430, which was significantly lower than the engineer's estimate of $3.5 million. The city's portion covers water and sewer line work, funded by the city's water and sewer accounts, in addition to its share of the transportation costs.
Layton City Council Approves Rezone for Small Parcel to Accommodate Residential Property Consolidation
Layton City Council approved a rezone request for a small parcel of land (approximately 533 square feet) located at 2382 East, 1200 North. The property, previously owned by the school district and acquired by the city, is adjacent to a larger residential property. The owner requested the rezone from A (Agriculture) to R110 (single-family residential) to match their existing home's zoning. The intention is to later amend the plat to incorporate this small parcel into their main property, consolidating multiple parcels into one. The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval on June 23rd, 2026, subject to meeting staff memorandum requirements. The city supports this recommendation. The council adopted Ordinance 26-22 for the rezone, with a roll call vote of Aye from all members.
