Police Department Commended for July 3rd Event Management and Charity Softball Game Success
Chief LaCoco and his staff were commended for their work on July 3rd, especially in managing issues during the fireworks event, which was affected by weather and power outages. Despite the challenges, the police department successfully ensured people were evacuated safely from the grounds. The Chief also thanked participants, donors, and spectators of the charity police-fire softball game, which raised money for the Ellie Strong Foundation.
The Club at Ed Bossert Drive Receives PUD Amendment for Outdoor Dining and Signage
The Village Board approved ordinance O-36-26, amending the final Planned Unit Development (PUD) for 'The Club' at 46 Ed Bossert Drive. The amendment permits outdoor dining, a patio to the west of the building, and allows for additional signage, subject to approval by the Historic Preservation Commission through a certificate of appropriateness. These are the only amendments to the final PUD at this time.
Police Department Roof Replacement Contract Awarded
Resolution R-59-26 was approved, authorizing the roof replacement at the police department. The current roof is 20 years old and has experienced numerous leaks. Three quotes were received, with Alder Roofing submitting the lowest bid of $223,035. The village has had positive experiences with Alder Roofing in the past.
Public Meeting Announced for Main Street, Illinois, and Talcott Intersection Realignment
The Village Board announced an upcoming open house public meeting on Thursday, July 18th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, to discuss the proposed realignment of Main Street, Illinois, and Talcott. This meeting, hosted by consultants, will focus on traffic and rail safety improvements at the intersection across from Turnabout. The public is invited to view plans, provide input, and learn about the engineering process. Future meetings will follow.
State Street Resurfacing Nears Completion; Intersection Work Handled by IDOT
Ralph, the Public Works Director, provided an update on the State Street resurfacing project, stating that striping is complete and structures on parkways will be removed. He clarified that the completion of the intersection at State and Illinois, and the ramp to VFW and New Avenue, is a separate contract managed by IDOT and is anticipated for the second week of August, with paving occurring at night due to truck traffic. This work will connect to the village's project at Cass.
