Planning Commission Votes on Multiple Zoning and Land Use Items; RAK Properties Zone Change Results in Tie Vote, Postponed for Reconsideration

The Planning Commission discussed and ultimately voted on multiple items, including postponements, a preliminary subdivision plan, a waiver request, and zone changes. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the RAK Properties LLC zone change request (PLN-MAR-26-12) from P-1 to R-4, which faced considerable opposition from residents concerned about traffic, safety, environmental impact, and compatibility with the Tuscany neighborhood. The commission ultimately tied on the zone change vote, leading to an automatic postponement for reconsideration in 30 days as per KRS statute. The development plan and waiver request for the same property were postponed to the same date. Other items included a cell tower expansion (PLN-CELL-26-4), which was approved, and the Downtown Area Master Plan, which was adopted.
