Mason Approves Amendment to Warren County CDBG Agreement, Keeps Funding Options Open
Ordinance 2026-64, authorizing the City Manager to execute Amendment Number Two to the cooperation agreement for the Warren County CDBG entitlement program, was approved. Mason is not currently an "acquired city" for these funds and must compete with other county cities. Past attempts to secure CDBG funds for ADA ramps were unsuccessful. This amendment keeps the option open to apply for future eligible projects.
Mason Sports Park Parking Lot Lighting Rehabilitation to Proceed with Increased Budget
An ordinance (2026-65) was presented to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with ESI Electrical Contractors for the rehabilitation of lighting in the Mason Sports Park parking lots. The project will repair conduits and replace existing fixtures with LED lights. The estimated cost is $181,000, exceeding the budgeted $150,000 due to material price increases. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October and will include lighting for both the upper and lower parking lots, as well as the dog park area.
PACE Financing Removed for CM Paula Expansion, Allowing Refinancing
Ordinance 2026-70 was approved to remove special assessments previously levied for public improvements related to the CM Paula Company project, in cooperation with the I75 Energy Special Improvement District. This ordinance retires the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing used by CM Paula for its 2023 expansion, allowing the company to refinance at a lower rate.
Community Events Announced; Property Maintenance Update Requested; Council Email Digest Proposed
Council Member Bennett provided updates on various community events and initiatives. The East Main Music Fest is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, seeking musicians and performers. A new 'Fourth Sunday on the Mile' popup market will begin July 26th, featuring handmade arts, crafts, and local produce. Bennett also requested an update from staff on the property maintenance guidelines for businesses along Kings Mills Road, a year after their approval, and proposed that council members receive a weekly digest of emails sent to the council's official email address.
Mason Recognizes Parks and Recreation Month; New Master Plan and Gold Park Concept Planning Underway
Resolution 2026-18, recognizing Parks and Recreation Month, was adopted. The resolution highlights the city's parks and recreation department's programming and amenities, including the community center, aquatic center, and Mikino Park. A key initiative mentioned is the need to update the 2003 Parks and Recreation Plan. The city has contracted with 110% for a new parks master plan, a process expected to take 18 months. Additionally, concept plans for the ninth city park, Gold Park, are being developed in coordination with the master plan process.
