Trustee Raises Concerns Over Transparency and Process in Grocery Store Project

Maywood Approves Rezoning for Fifth Avenue Corridor and Fence Variation for Noise Buffering
The Maywood Board of Trustees considered a rezoning request to change the zoning designation for the properties at 1113 South 5th Avenue and 1115 South 5th Avenue from R5 Multi-Family Residential to C2 Pedestrian-Oriented Commercial, which was part of a comprehensive plan for the Fifth Avenue corridor. This rezoning was recommended for approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The board also considered a fence height variation request for these properties, allowing for an eight-foot fence on the west and north sides to act as a sound buffer for residents and control views. This variation was also recommended for approval. The discussions involved concerns about noise ordinances and the business's operation as an event venue rather than solely a restaurant.
