Emergency crews secured the site, and repairs commenced with UPMC contracting JetJack and Independent Enterprises. The repair is estimated to take approximately 10 days, weather permitting. A resident inquired about the cost liability, and it was clarified that the roadway was dedicated to the town in 2009, but the failed pipe was not identified as part of the accepted infrastructure. UPMC has contracted the repair, and the town is collaborating by managing the project through their engineers to ensure standards are met and to gain some control over the process. The town hopes to eventually take over the pipe once properly installed with acceptable materials, as corrugated metal is no longer used under roads.

Mr. Schwin explained that a year is a reasonable timeframe for private owners to comply and that current hookup capabilities remain adequate for public safety.
