Village Board Approves Funding for Douglas Avenue Resurfacing Project, Secures Increased Federal Share
The Village Board authorized the village's share of construction and engineering costs for the Douglas Avenue/Road resurfacing project. The project, funded by federal Surface Transportation funds, will resurface Douglas Road from US Route 30 to Ashlin Avenue. The project will be bid on September 18, 2026, with construction starting in April 2026. Originally funded at 43% federal and 57% local, additional funding secured from the Kane Kendall Council of Mayors increased the federal share to 75%, reducing the local share significantly. The village's local share is estimated at $417,500, down from an original budget of $838,566. The project also involves a cost share with the city of Aurora due to a portion being within their limits.
Village Board Debates Liquor License for Shell Station on Webster Avenue; No Action Taken
Ordinance 2189, concerning an amendment to Chapter 3 of the village code to increase the class M2 liquor license for Louis Gas and Food Inc. and RDK Ventures (Shell station on Webster), was presented for a first reading. This license permits beer and wine sales. Several board members expressed concerns about the location being in a residential area, near a school, and the potential for gaming machines if a liquor license were granted. The applicant stated they do not plan on getting gaming machines and that their facility lacks the room for them. It was clarified that M2 licenses do not permit liquor, only beer and wine, and that state regulations for gaming licenses, including parcel size and pouring licenses, would need to be met. The board also discussed the existing M2 licenses in town and the zoning of the property. No action was taken, and the vote will occur at a future meeting.
