Signage Approved to Rename Z Track Park in Honor of Patrolman David Hancock

The board granted consensus to allow the Chair, Greg Reef, and Chief Peoples to work on the content for a new sign at the Z track park, which will be renamed the David Hancock Memorial Field. This renaming honors Patrolman David Hancock on the 50th anniversary of his death. The sign needs to be developed quickly to meet a proposed November dedication.

Township Approves Participation in County Fuel Contract with SJ Fuel South

The board authorized the township's participation in the Montgomery County Consortium Fuel Contract, awarded to SJ Fuel South. This contract is valid for one year, from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027, for the purchase of petroleum products. Fuel allocations were included in the 2026 budget.

Township Financial Update Shows Operations On-Budget; Capital Projects Under Budget

An update on year-to-date financial activity was presented, showing the township is operating almost on budget for both revenue and expenses, with no significant unexpected items. Tax revenues, particularly real estate and business taxes, are at expected percentages of the budget. Real estate transfer tax revenue is ahead of budget, possibly due to a stronger housing market. Expenses are generally on track, with Public Works and Parks & Recreation being exceptions due to uncompleted capital projects. Capital projects are currently $830,000 under budget, not including the recent light conversion project which was also under budget.

During the public comment period, Jeff Washesky of the fire department requested an update on the evaluation of the fire department's manpower and requirements, which was acknowledged as a priority earlier in the year. He noted that several months had passed since the initial acknowledgment and sought public information on the status of this analysis.

Zoning Hearing Board to Review Fence and Porch Variances; Solicitor to Defend Officer's Determination on Fence

The board reviewed two applications to be heard by the zoning hearing board on August 5th. The first involves Gina and George Shute at 109 Cove Circle, seeking a dimensional variance for a 10-ft high fence where the ordinance limit is 6 ft. The second involves Scott and Patricia Van Orton at 142 Canterbury Lane, requesting a dimensional variance for a 2-foot encroachment into the 40-foot front yard setback for a proposed 150 sq ft covered porch. The board debated whether to send the solicitor to defend the zoning officer's determination regarding the Shute's fence, which has already been installed, or to remain neutral on the variance request. Ultimately, the consensus was to have the solicitor's office defend the zoning officer's interpretation of the code without opposing the variance request itself.
