City Council Reviews Water Loss Report, Approves Copper Service Line Project
The council received a presentation on the city's water loss report for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The report indicated a total water loss of over 168 million gallons, which equates to 13% of the total water pumped. While this percentage is within the norms set by the Texas Water Development Board, there was a slight increase in water loss in June 2026 (14%) compared to June 2025 (13%). The report detailed metered water usage by category, with residential usage being the highest. Proactive and reactive leak detection methods were discussed, including the repair of 51 leaks in 2024, 40 in 2025, and 19 so far in 2026. A new project for copper service line changeouts, approved on July 7th, is expected to begin construction in August or September with an 18-month timeline to address potential leaks and improve water management.

HEB officially opened to the public on July 22nd at 6 a.m. The city plans to issue traffic advisories due to anticipated delays and increased traffic in the area. Additionally, the 'Emerald City' concert, which was previously canceled due to weather, is rescheduled for Friday, July 31st, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Murphy Central Park. The next council meeting will be a combined session with a budget work session, with the first part in council chambers and the second in the community room.
