Seaside Farms PUD Amendments Include Sidewalk, Turn Lane, and Shelter Changes
The city is proposing amendments to the Seaside Farms PUD ordinance, including changes to parking requirements and public improvements. The Department of Transportation (DOT) had issues with the initial public improvement plans, specifically regarding a 10-foot sidewalk along Pine Island Road, citing insufficient right-of-way and the need to maintain open ditches. As a result, the plan has been modified to include a 5-foot sidewalk, a public transportation shelter, and a turn lane. The primary entrance to the development has been moved further down Pine Island Road to improve traffic flow, and DOT did not require a traffic study due to the proximity of an existing traffic signal.
Myrtle Beach Council Addresses Homelessness, Urges Need for Shelters
The council addressed the issue of homelessness and the need for emergency shelters, particularly for women and domestic violence victims. Joya Marshall highlighted the ongoing volunteer efforts to support the unhoused population, emphasizing the lack of cooling centers and hydration stations during extreme heat and the urgent need for an emergency shelter. Kate Curran clarified that while New Directions offers services, it does not specifically cater to domestic violence victims, a critical need addressed by the Family Justice Center in Conway.
