Oregon Village Board Meeting (7/20/26)

Village Board Debates Expansion of ADUs and Short-Term Rental Regulations

The Village Board discussed potential ordinance changes regarding accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and short-term rentals. The Planning Commission recommended allowing ADUs in the TR6 (two-family or duplex residential) zoning district, which includes single-family homes within that district, as a step towards increasing density and providing more housing options. This recommendation is a progression from the current allowance in only the SR6 district. Concerns were raised about potential impacts on neighborhood character, especially regarding rentals, and the enforceability of regulations. For short-term rentals, a bare-bones ordinance was presented, with discussions focusing on potential restrictions like a maximum of 180 rental nights per year and a minimum stay of six nights, with the possibility of differentiating regulations based on zoning districts. The board expressed a desire to proceed cautiously with ADUs, potentially starting with the TR6 district, and to implement stricter initial regulations for short-term rentals.
