West Light Energy (formerly Peninsula Clean Energy) Delivers Significant Savings and Investments
Council Member Marty Medina shared an update on his involvement with West Light Energy (formerly Peninsula Clean Energy). He highlighted the agency's success in saving customers over $226 million and investing over $100 million in community projects. A key achievement mentioned is the Sunzia project in New Mexico, a 15-year power purchase agreement signed in 2023. Medina visited the site, which features 916 turbines and a 550-mile transmission system, providing 13% of West Light's annual needs, powering 60,000-70,000 homes. San Bruno Reports Significant Drop in Fourth of July Fireworks Incidents
The San Bruno Police and Fire Departments reported a significant reduction in calls for service and citations related to fireworks during the recent Fourth of July holiday compared to previous years. The Police Department saw a decrease from 27 calls in the lead-up to the holiday last year to three this year, and from multiple citations to none. Post-holiday, calls dropped from an unspecified higher number to 49, with citations decreasing to eight. The Fire Department responded to four fire-related calls, including a vegetation fire, a dumpster fire threatening a structure, and two trash fires. The reduction in incidents is attributed to community education efforts and a change in operational approach. The departments plan to adjust staffing and strategy for future Fourth of July celebrations based on this data, moving away from an 'all hands on deck' approach unless circumstances change. The overall cost impact for public safety operations for the holiday was just over $61,000, a slight decrease from the previous year.
San Bruno City Council Confirms Appointments to Key Committees
The San Bruno City Council confirmed appointments to three committees: Crime Prevention Committee, Culture and Arts Commission, and Emergency Preparedness Committee. Matt Jones and Daniel were appointed to the Crime Prevention Committee. For the Culture and Arts Commission, Selena Welsh was appointed to a term expiring October 31, 2026, and Johnny Huerta was appointed to a term expiring October 31, 2028.
