Shelby High School Track Stars Celebrated for State Championship Wins and High GPA
Shelby High School's 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams were recognized for winning state championships in indoor track and demonstrating continued success outdoors. These young ladies, coached by Dobson Collins and David Also, with assistant coaches Rashad Barkley, Sam Baldry, and Cecil Bean, achieved a combined GPA of 3.62, highlighting their strong academic performance alongside their athletic achievements.

Former Marian Elementary School Property Sold for $620,000
A resolution was presented and approved for the sale of the former Marian Elementary School property located at 410 Forest Hill Drive in Shelby, NC. The property was declared surplus on April 17, 2023. After the county commissioners expressed no interest, the board proceeded with selling the property 'as is' through a negotiated offer and upset bid process. The highest bid of $620,000 was submitted by 'one more, one less project' after the upset bid period closed on July 6, 2026. The superintendent and board attorney are authorized to finalize the sale.
Superintendent Announces Back-to-School Dates, Celebrates High AP Pass Rate
The Superintendent provided updates on upcoming events and achievements. Administrative summer meetings are scheduled for the next three days to prepare for the coming school year with the theme 'winning culture.' Residency license teachers return July 29th, and beginning teachers return July 30th or 31st. Internship presentations are on July 29th and 30th at 1:30 PM, with over 200 interns participating. Committee meetings will occur the week of July 27th. The Cleveland County Jamboree is at Gardner Webb University on July 27th at 6:00 PM. The first day of school is August 12th. AP scores are back, with a pass rate of over 72%, which is higher than last year and one of the highest ever for Cleveland County schools.
