Skoki Village Swears In New Fire Lieutenant and Two Firefighters
The Skoki Village Board swore in a new lieutenant and two new firefighters. Bruce Rottner of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners administered the oaths. Jacob Gayer was promoted to lieutenant, and Patrick Fehey and Casmir Plonzinski were sworn in as firefighters. The board congratulated the new officers and their families.
Skoki Expands Youth Commission to 25 Members Amidst Strong Interest
The Skoki Village Board approved the formation and expansion of a new Youth Commission. Initially planned for 16 members, the board increased the capacity to up to 25 members to accommodate strong applicant interest, including outreach to Evanston Township High School District. The commission will focus on youth concerns such as isolation, mental health, social media impact, and the need for safe gathering spaces. Amarie Bonuzi and Brian McHugh will staff the commission.
Skoki Approves Lot Consolidation for Property at 9050 Keystone Avenue
The Skoki Village Board approved a resolution to combine two parcels of land into one lot at 9050 Keystone Avenue. The property, located in the R1 single-family residential district, is owned by a single owner and currently has multiple property identification numbers (PINs). This consolidation is a standard village practice to simplify ownership and property management, especially as the existing single-family home crosses multiple lot lines.
Skoki Approves Alcohol Sales for Annual Backlot Bash Event
The Skoki Village Board approved an ordinance for the temporary sale and consumption of alcoholic liquor on public right-of-way and municipal property for the upcoming 'Backlot Bash' hosted by the park district. This ordinance allows for the sale and consumption within designated, fenced areas, including parts of Oakton Street and municipal parking lots.
Skoki Approves $50,000 Grant for Skoi Theater Restoration
The Skoki Village Board approved a $50,000 storefront enhancement grant for the Skoi Theater at 7924 Lincoln Avenue. The grant will assist the new ownership group, led by local families, with interior and exterior remodeling to create a modern performing arts space. Improvements include masonry repair, tuck pointing, roof repairs, ticket window and marquee restoration, lobby remodeling, and HVAC upgrades. The theater is expected to reopen in late September.
