Victoria Child Safety Program Update: Grant Applications Opening July 27th
The City of Victoria presented an update on its Child Safety Program for Fiscal Year 2027. Applications for the child safety grants will open on July 27th and close on August 14th, with funding decisions expected by August 28th and contracts effective October 1st. The system includes two ground-based 'BRINK responder' station-based DFR drones for aerial surveillance and one 'Lemur 2' indoor tactical drone. These drones will enhance situational awareness, improve response times, assist in de-escalation, and provide critical support for police, fire, and EMS operations, including search and rescue and emergency supply delivery. The system includes advanced cameras, thermal imaging, and communication capabilities, with data storage complying with federal security requirements and a public transparency portal.
Victoria Fire Department Acquires New Fire Engines to Modernize Fleet
The Victoria City Council approved the purchase of a new Pierce Sabre Pumper fire engine and a Pierce Enforcer fire engine through a lease purchase agreement. The new engines are intended to modernize the aging fire department fleet, reduce maintenance costs, and improve response capabilities. The purchase of the Sabre Pumper is a direct purchase, while the Enforcer is acquired through a 10-year lease. The new equipment will increase the water capacity of the engines and reduce the average age of the fire fleet, enhancing operational readiness and safety for both firefighters and the community.
