Select Board Adopts Policy for Road Commissioner Decisions
The Select Board confirmed and accepted Select Board Policy Number [number not specified], which outlines decisions made while acting as road commissioners. This policy was developed because the role of road commissioner returned to the Select Board after previously being a separate board. The policy states that the Select Board, acting as road commissioners, will make decisions based on recommendations from the director of municipal maintenance, the chief of police, and the fire chief for each district. Wareham Council on Aging Receives Multiple Donations Totaling Over $1,400
The Select Board accepted two donations from the Friends of the Wareham Council on Aging. The first donation was for $1,200, allocated as $200 for copy paper, $500 for carnival purposes, and $500 for entertainers. The second donation was $200 in the form of two $100 Aldi gift cards for kitchen supplies, with purchases to be tracked by the Council on Aging director. Additionally, a $20 donation from Kathy Cadman was accepted for the Wareham Council on Aging to be used for any purpose. All donations were approved via roll call votes.
Select Board Approves Previous Meeting Minutes
The Select Board approved the minutes from the July 7th, 2026, regular meeting and the July 16th, 2026, executive session meeting. A motion was made and seconded for each set of minutes, followed by a roll call vote for each approval.
Connor Alden Appointed to Zoning Board of Appeals
The board discussed and voted to appoint Connor Alden as a full member to the Zoning Board of Appeals, with his term to expire on June 30, 2031. There was initial confusion regarding the term length and the number of members on the ZBA. Some board members expressed a desire to have Alden present for discussion, but it was noted he was not informed he needed to attend as he was moving up within the same committee. Ultimately, a motion was made and a roll call vote was initiated.
Resident Expresses Concerns Over Bay View Park Maintenance and Sidewalk Project Silt Fencing
Resident Susan Noonan raised concerns about the maintenance and appearance of Bay View Park in Onset. She noted that the plants surrounding the park, particularly near the Buzzards Bay Coalition Beach House, have become overgrown, blocking walkways and views. She also pointed out the presence of black silt fencing along West Boulevard, related to a sidewalk project, which she found to be an eyesore and impeding access for water-based activities. The fencing was put up to protect turtles, though long-time residents have not observed any in the area. Construction on the sidewalk project is scheduled to resume in September or October after a pause.
