The town council considered Ordinance 2026-32 for the second reading, which involves rezoning approximately 2.3 acres north of Whitestown Parkway west of County Road 475 from general agricultural to I1, as part of Ambrose's development plan. The plan commission had previously given a favorable recommendation for this rezoning. The council approved the ordinance.
Police Department Fleet Upgrades Approved for 2027
The council approved an expenditure not to exceed $396,000 for the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department's 2027 fleet project. This includes the purchase of six Ford Explorer hybrids and one F-150. The number of vehicles is reduced from eight in 2026 to six in 2027, with the department believed to be in adequate shape to accommodate this reduction. The price of the Explorers has decreased by approximately $1,200 to $1,500 per vehicle compared to the previous year.
Police Department Enters 10-Year Technology Agreement with Axon for Cameras
The council approved an expenditure not to exceed $1,181,614.56 for a 10-year Axon Enterprise Technology Agreement for the police department. This agreement replaces outdated in-car cameras that are no longer serviceable and consolidates current body camera contracts. The new agreement includes a TAP (Technology Assurance Program) allowing for automatic upgrades to newer models and covers the replacement and installation of all current in-car cameras. The cost for the first year is comparable to current spending, with a slight increase in subsequent years. The approval is contingent upon the addition of non-appropriation, non-discrimination, and E-Verify clauses to the contract.
Council Approves 27 CF1 Forms for Local Development Projects
The council reviewed and approved a batch of 27 CF1 forms for various projects around Whitestown. These forms relate to economic development, including details on investments, jobs created, and wages. Specific projects like Fiberglobal and Citymark 450s were discussed regarding their current status of job creation and project completion. Sky India LLC was noted for a significant increase in jobs from proposal to actualization. The council acknowledged the utility of these forms for tracking development and improving future reporting.
Police Department to Replace Aging Duty Firearms
The council approved an expenditure not to exceed $38,736 for the purchase of new duty firearms for the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department. The current Glocks are eight years old, exceeding the industry standard of five years. The purchase includes 48 Glock Gen 6 45s with Aimpoint sights. Officer buybacks of their current firearms and returns to the vendor will offset a significant portion of the cost, making the net out-of-pocket expense approximately $12,736.
